Springtime at The Ridge

Updated: Apr 12, 2024

We just crossed back into Texas after a week-long trip to our property. We made a lot more progress fine tuning the property including opening up the Outhouse lounge area to give our guests a little something extra for their stay. It was 85% work this time and 15% play which I suppose is progress. The weather was amazing during the day and a little chilly at night. We fished the lake there and was shocked at how many crappies were in the lake. That was exciting news! I got 1/3 of the way painting the old, faded iron fence that surrounds the pool- A very tedious task. We took a trip to Mountainview to do some antiquing and to get to know our neighbors. We met Pat who owned a huge collection of Elvis memorabilia in her shop as well as The Rainbow Cafe that is decked out in her Elvis collection. Upon our return to The Ridge, we were greeted by John and Kaleb with the Arkansas state pool inspectors to inform us we needed a permit to operate our pool. They were very friendly, and we are scheduled Tuesday for inspection. I asked them how they even knew we had a pool and they said from the sign on the road. At least I know we are on the radar now. I never knew we had to permit a pool for a private cabin retreat.

Ever since we bought this place, we would see big bomber planes come right over the property, usually two in secession. By the time I get my camera out they are long gone. I did a lot of outdoor work since it felt so good so i got to see that they pretty much come every day around lunch time. This time we also saw fighter jets cross over as well which is super cool to me. I always knew across the river there was a train that passed by because you can hear the whistle as it goes by crossings, but I was actually able to see it from the property if you are on the pool deck. Springtime is in my opinion the perfect time to go to Arkansas and I hope by next year I will have guests who do too!
