A little history of the property before it became The Ridge

Updated: Jul 3, 2024

All property in this world has a history. I find it interesting to know that another family took the land and started a vision, and over the years it can be continued, improved, or abandoned. We have always been on the improving side of property, and I still hold dear all the property we have had over the years. I always hope that the property we get becomes a better place.

It started with the old snail mail letter I sent to Mr. Wyatt in hopes he would respond. Property records only give out current addresses and I was hoping it would be received well. Wen did not purchase the property from Mr. Wyatt as it has changed hands at least three times since he sold it. But I knew Mr. Wyatt would know the stories to be told! The letter was received, and I got a text from him that he and his wife would love to meet up while we were up. Not wanting to seem like a psycho I picked a restaurant in Mountainview so if they wanted to dash out, they would be in public. The Wyatts are an amazing couple. After speaking with them it was like looking into the future. They are still mowing, still maintaining beautiful properties, and still very much an active couple in the community. Heck the servers at the restaurant knew them by name! We had a great time and learned a lot.

The property was originally owned by Mr. Wyatt's uncle. The private lake there was built by his uncle and was stocked full of fish. He named the lake after his wife-Lake Virginia. The outdoor fireplace, which was a topic of debate between me, and my husband was resolved. The outdoor fireplace was the original homesite that was dilapidated when he purchased it, but they kept the old fireplace intact. The main house was the only building built by his family and they enjoyed the property for years. It was eventually sold to a Y2K prepper who built the 3 cabins that we now rent out. They were built for his kids to live off grid with wood burning stoves, kerosene lamps, gas stoves, but yet all of the modern amenities like electric a/c. He put in a generator, large fuel tanks, water tanks, a commercial propane tank, two storm shelters, a radio tower, well water, and what is now the Outhouse Lounge was once a large ammunition room. Mostly everything remains at the property. The main house has large shelves that held large amounts of food supply. The shelves still remain but we will be taking them out when we remodel. So, when the year 2000 did not cause the world to end the property was of no use and sadly it was sold once again. I commend the prepper he had some great ideas, and the cabins are well built and beautiful! I did not get much more info on the investors other than it may have been one or two trying to make a go of a white river getaway. Who knows why the property became vacant, I still have more questions, but I now have a little history.

Our history of this property started in September when it spoke to us. So many people have walked this property and enjoyed it over the years. We want everyone to be able to see the beauty and let it speak to them as well. We have made friends with the Wyatts and will stay in touch hopefully for years to come. The history continues and one day someone may tell the story of how we made a great vacation getaway in the small Ozark town of Marcella Arkansas.
